With the introduction of the College Football Playoff in 2014, bowl season paid more than half a billion dollars last fall to conferences and schools, nearly $200 million more than the final postseason during the Bowl Championship Series era.
ESPN pays a gargantuan sum to broadcast most of the games — including all of the New Year』s Six and the CFP National Championship — and Power 5 leagues are benefiting from it.
Teams participating in the New Year's Six — Cotton, Orange, Peach, Fiesta, Sugar and Rose — will be a part of the 'Playoff Revenue Pool' pay-out, a term the College Football Playoff uses to determine its revenue distribution policies.
