此處許淵衝必須擁有姓名~
最近在看許譯本《李白詩選》，顱內高潮迭起。一半是因為李太白的詩，一半是因為許老的譯文。佳譯實在太多，此處只放剛剛印象深刻的一首《月下獨酌》——
用詞十分精煉，雖然看上去比中文長不少，但並無一詞冗餘。不但將原詩的內容完整傳達，可「讀」性同樣很高，譯詩亦為詩。李白將「月」和「影」的擬人化處理也得到充分保留。
更妙的是，最後兩句通過將「無情遊」翻譯成 (outshine all) earthly love，一來與最後一句的「邈雲漢」beyond the stars above 形成自然對比，二來也與「月」Moon這個意向構成呼應並點題（earth; moon），不露痕跡地在原詩基礎上做了發揮。
月下獨酌
Drinking Alone under the Moon
花間一壺酒，
Amid the flowers, from a pot of wine
獨酌無相親。
I drink alone beneath the bright moonshine.
舉杯邀明月，
I raise my cup to invite the Moon who blends...
對影成三人。
Her light with my Shadow and we're three friends.
月既不解飲，
The Moon does not know how to drink her share;
影徒隨我身。
In vain my Shadow follows me here and there.
暫伴月將影，
Together with them for the time I stay,
行樂須及春。
And make merry before spring's spent away.
我歌月徘徊，
I sing and the Moon lingers to hear my song;
我舞影凌亂。
My shadow's a mess while I dance along.
醒時同交歡，
Sober, we three remain cheerful and gay;
醉後各分散。
Drunken, we part and each may go his way.
永結無情遊，
Our friendship will outshine all earthly love，
相期邈雲漢。

背景是20世紀美國有一段時間出現的「寒山熱」。屬於「垮掉的一代」的斯奈德尋求對舊文化的反叛和替代，從中國古詩裡探索自己的生活之道，譯詩並不華麗，可貴在自然樸素，合寒山詩風，而且在形式上模仿了中國詩歌羅列意象。
