寫意：Abstract art 或 Expressionism
翻譯：For thousands of years, Western art has developed towardsrealism, whereas Eastern art developed towardsexpressionism.
但是abstract（抽象）和expressionism（表現派）都是二十世紀萌生的新詞彙及產物。用這兩個詞並不能很充分地表達「寫意」，反而會和現代藝術流派混在一起。
所以我的建議就是，不如把最貼切「寫意」的意思寫出來：
For thousands of years, Western art has developed towardscreating true-life depictionsof the subject, whereas Eastern art focused onexpressing the inner essenceof the theme.
前面的「realism」也換了，這樣前後兩段能構成平行結構。
